Semester I SMART goal:

During semester I my goal is to participate more in the lesson planning process in order to become a more confident educator.

Teacher Candidate Responsibility Checklist

On the left is my teacher candidate responsibility checklist. The dispositions on the checklist gave me wonderful insight into all of the "behind the scenes" of teaching. For example, when I was in Troy, I had the opportunity to attend a data meeting for the first-grade teachers and see how this particular school uses data showing the disposition, "Talk to someone and/or observe how data/graphs/charts are used to determine individual or group patterns of learning and set instructional goals,"

Final Reflection on Semester I School Experiences

Reflecting on my time in the classroom is crucial for growing as an educator. This assignment has allowed me to see what has worked in the classroom and how I can improve. I have found that this can help with improving teaching strategies, having stronger connections with students, classroom management insights, and professional growth.

Semester I Schedule

Shown to the left is my Semester I school schedule. I was placed in first grade in Troy, Illinois, and fifth grade in Dupo, Illinois. I was fortunate enough to see two diverse schools and grade levels which gave me insight about school cultures and how to manage behavior and academics based on student needs. Elementary education is not "one size fits all," system!

Lesson Participation Assignment

To the right is my Lesson Participation and Field Assignment for Mathematics instruction assignment. For this assignment, I taught a math lesson to my first-grade placement and interviewed a diverse student before, during, and after the lesson. This assignment taught me about all of the elements that go into creating a lesson as well as how important it is to differentiate instruction based on students.

Technology Assignment

To the left is a "tech demo,"  a video I created on code-a-pillars and how to use hands-on instruction with technology to teach students measuring. As an educator, I firmly believe that making an activity hands-on and interactive gets students more engaged and makes abstract concepts more concrete. This assignment taught me how technology can positively motivate students and create an opportunity for hands-on learning in the classroom.
